adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 vs Adios Pro 4: what changed?
Quick answer
A bigger change than most updates: about 20g lighter, a one-piece carbon frame in place of the Pro 4's carbon rods, more foam under the forefoot and a lower 4mm drop.
- Stack (heel / forefoot)
39 / 33mm→ 39 / 35mm - Drop
6mm→ 4mm - Weight (men's)
200g→ 180g - Carbon
EnergyRods→ EnergyRim frame - FoamLightstrike Pro unchanged
What's new
A carbon frame instead of rods
The Pro 4 used separate carbon rods; the Pro 5 has one carbon structure around the foot. It feels more connected, and less like riding on individual stiffeners.
Lighter
Around 20g less in a men's size, a big drop for a shoe that was already race-light.
Lower drop, more forefoot foam
The heel stays at 39mm while the forefoot rises to 35mm, so the drop falls from 6mm to 4mm. Your calves will notice the difference, so build up to it.
Should you upgrade?
Get the Adizero Adios Pro 5: if you want the lighter, more modern super shoe and your calves are used to low-drop racers.
Get the Adios Pro 4: The Pro 4 is still a great race shoe, and a better match if you like a bit more drop. Grab it while it's discounted.
Right now the Adizero Adios Pro 4 is £138 at Run4It, £82 less than the Adizero Adios Pro 5.
