Do Nike running shoes run true to size?
How Nike running shoes fit: length, width and which models to size up in.
The verdict
True to size, with a few snug exceptions.
Yes: most Nike running shoes are true to size, but on the narrow side. Wide fits are available.
Daily trainers like the Pegasus are true to size. The race shoes are snug and narrow, and many runners go half a size up in them. Wide versions are mostly men's only.

Between sizes?
Running shoes should leave about a thumb's width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. Your feet swell on longer runs, so a shoe that feels just right in the shop can feel tight at mile ten. If you're between sizes, go up half a size for long runs and marathons; for short, fast race shoes, a closer fit is fine.
If your feet are wide, a wide version beats going up a size: a longer shoe adds length where you don't need it, and your foot can slide around.
Frequently asked questions
Should I size up in Nike running shoes?
Not usually. Most Nike running shoes fit in your normal size. The exceptions are the Alphafly 4, the Juniper Trail 3, the Streakfly 2 and the Vaporfly 4, which fit closer: go half a size up if your feet are wide or you're between sizes.
Do Nike make wide-fit running shoes?
Yes. The Pegasus 42, Revolution 8, Structure 26, Vomero 18, Vomero Plus and Winflo 12 come in a wide fit.
Is Nike sizing the same as other brands?
Nike's own trainers are true to size, but its race shoes run small. If you wear the same size in a Pegasus as in other brands, expect to go half a size up in a Vaporfly.
How we know
We read what independent reviewers consistently report about each shoe's fit, alongside Nike's own guidance, and check which wide fits are actually on sale. As readers tell us how their shoes fit, we'll add that too.
